【Issue120】Lee Kin Ming

Strolling along the streets, you’ll spot the beautiful handwriting of local calligrapher Lee Hon promoting shops of all kinds. Lee Kin Ming (96/UC/Geography), the second-gen leader of a signboard-making company, has taken on the important task of preserving these fonts by digitalized Lee Hon’s manuscript into a font named “Lee Hon Kong Kai” , passing on the legacy of HK’s unique signboards.

Kin Ming believes in blending the old with the new for true conservation. “In the popular movie ‘Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In’many nostalgic signboards feature the ‘Lee Hon Kong Kai’ font, showcasing a highly practical transformation. Efforts should be made to support the legacy, giving it market value. Conservation thrives when the past isn’t seen as old-fashioned. ”
