Alumna Dora Choi (03/NA/Journalism & Comm.; 15/GS/Anthropology), director of the documentary “To be Continued”, begins her journey with the preservation of the iconic State Theatre, shedding light on the life of Harry Odell, a Hong Kong entertainment magnate from the 1950s who established the Theatre.
Spending five years on the documentary, Dora consistently reminds herself that “conservation is not merely about nostalgia…we blend the past with the present; for example, Odell’s perseverance in managing the Theatre post-Japanese occupation elicits emotions, transcending time, space, and even race.” She believes that what truly endures across generations are the people and events within these landmarks.
