【Issue125】Wai Tong CHIEN

Professor Wai Tong CHIEN (93/SC/Nursing, 95/GS/MPhil in Nursing), Director of the Nethersole School of Nursing at CUHK, began his career on the clinical frontline before moving into academia. Looking back on his time at Castle Peak Hospital, he recalls noticing the challenges faced by patients and their caregivers. That experience has driven his research in psychosocial intervention, aiming to help psychiatric patients reintegrate into society and to equip families with better caregiving and communication skills. In addition, he and his team have developed Pai.ACT, the first Cantonese AI-powered mobile app that integrates psychological therapy to improve the mental health of caregivers of children with special education needs (SEN).

Professor Chien advises that maintaining good mental health can start with building strong social networks, broadening one’s horizons, and keeping an open mind.
